Trim gives unsatisfactory results

I have had trouble trying to resize boxes to make the claim text more readable. Too often the boxes get long and thing resulting in a string of words that is hard to read, like this:

The cat
sat on
the
mat

I have been manually resizing and trimming individual boxes, but later I find that the boxes have changed size again (presumably an interaction with some other command), so the end result is no improvement.

Reading the tutorial I found advice on the use of the Trim button on the ribbon. Repeated use of this button gradually narrows boxes, so they end up tall and thin. Sometimes is even splits a word. I have one box that reads "God's existence is necessary"; this has been formatted by Trim to this:

God's
existence
is necessar
y

As an auxiliary question: as a temp fix to this, if I manually resize claim boxes and eschew the use of trim, is there any other action that will automatically invoke trim?

Roger,

if you have the auto-trim function on, the trim function will be automatically executed on every box after you have completed the text editing of an box. In all other cases the trim function will not be automatically executed.

Rob,

Thanks for the response. I am working with auto-trim off, so my manual adjustments should be fine.

For your consideration, I draw your attention to different behaviour when making adjustments to a box.

1) Sometimes when I widen a box by dragging the boundary to the right, the height does not change. Extra white space appears after the the text, which can be removed by dragging the bottom of the box up.

2) Other times when I increase the width, the height is automatically adjusted, so no white space is left at the end of the text.

This is not a huge deal, but it would be nice to understand why the difference in behaviour.

Roger,

if you have used the trim function on a box and you manually change the width of the box the height will automatically be adjusted as long as you don't manually change the height of the box.
